Quality of railway coaches differs - IC and EC are rather clean, other express and local may be dirty, especially the toilettes and washrooms, which mostly aren't equipped with toilette paper and napkins - it is good idea to have some with you.

| Local Public Transport in Bratislava
You can use buses, trolleybuses and trams. Tickets are available at the newsagents, in hotels or in machines at most stops.
Prior to getting on any public means of transport all passengers are obliged to buy tickets and after getting inside they have to mark them in the nearest electronic machine. After changing to another means of transport it is not necessary to mark another ticket. Into the time of the ticket validity the time for interrupting the journey will be counted in. Any ticket that has not been marked or has been marked improperly, will be considered invalid.
There are timetables installed at stops, which provide information regarding the time of journey, the first stop, the terminus on a certain route, and information regarding the tariff zone. These data are binding when an inspector examines tickets to check whether they are valid.
Passengers are obliged to pay for the baggage the measurements of which are in excess of 30 x 40 x 60 cm, i.e. after getting on the vehicle they mark a reduced-fare ticket with respective time validity.

| Taxi in Bratislava
In comparison with other European cities the Bratislava taxis are cheap. There are many taxi companies in Bratislava as well as many drivers who are not signed up with any firm. But be carefull and do not pay more than it is appropriate. Our recommendations:
It is much cheaper to call a taxi by phone, than just take a taxi from the street.
When you enter a taxi, look at the running meter. It shows two numbers: total prize and rate (1 usually corresponds to a taxi hailed in the street, 2 is ordered by telephone, 3 and higher are usually rates for out-of-town trips).
In most cases it is possible to pay in foreign currencies, but it is cheaper to pay in Slovak crowns.
It is not required to leave taxi drivers a small tip.
Approximate price of the route from the airport to the city center is 250 – 300,- SKK. Ask first for the price and when a driver makes another proposal with higher price, order another taxi firm.
