Balloon riding in July 2006 - 2.

Review by Dan & Sarah (balloon ride in July 2006)

Our balloon ride with Panorama.sk was an amazing experience - something we will never forget. The organisation of the trip was excellent - we were collected from our apartment and brought out to meet the balloon pilots and operators. From there, we took a trip outside of Bratislava (since the city is a no-fly zone) to where the balloon was situated. After checking on the wind conditions, we helped the operators to set up the balloon, which was a lot of fun and also an excellent photo opportunity.

We did have to wait a while for the conditions to be right but this is a safety concern so it needed to be done. We were also worried for a little while that we might not get off the ground but the conditions were okay in the end.

Once the balloon was inflated, we jumped in and sailed into the sky, it was a very unique experience, almost like taking a glass elevator - a very smooth ascent and a pleasing sensation overall. We waved goodbye to our friends on the ground and floated over the beautiful countryside of Slovakia. Over villages and towns the people came out to take photographs and wave at what must have been a magnificent sight for them as well as for us. We continued to float over the countryside for about an hour, taking in the most beautiful sunset as we landed.

At this point, our friends on the ground (who had been following in their car) found us and took us back to Bratislava to our apartment door: fantastic service!

We would definitely recommend this experience -- we would however offer the following advice:

- bring a camera and take lots of pictures!

- bring mosquito cream (you may have to wait for the car to catch up with you, if so, don't give mosquitoes a feast while you wait)

- be prepared for a bumpy landing - its all part of the adventure but its good to expect it in case it does happen!

- dress sensibly, although it might seem very romantic, it might not be the most practical place for, say, a marriage proposal -- so leave the skirts and high-heel shoes at home!
