The spelling Schlachticz to me is either "americanized" or German spelling of(Slovak) S'l'achtic'.
The OVA is a female ending on a surname FABINY / FABINI.

Svedlar was settled by Carpathian Germans until 1945, so your grandfather spoke German, it seems that he was Carpathian German. Carpathian Germans were expelled from Spis county after WWII.
